Day 10 Monday, 14 November We drive north on Freeway 3 to Tainan and visit Tainan Air Base. We’ll have lunch in Tainan City, which has a wonderful restaurant serving Shrimp Spring Rolls. In the afternoon we will visit the oldest Temple in Taiwan, Anping Fort, the Tree House and the harbor.
Day 11 Tuesday, 15 November We drive north on Freeway 1 to Expressway 82, turning east to Freeway 3, turning north to Chiayi. At Chiayi we will travel east on Highway 18 to Alishan, at an altitude of 7,300’. We’ll have lunch up at Alishan and have around 3 hours to explore, by foot, the village of Alishan and the surrounding area. Later in the afternoon we will travel back down Highway 18 heading east to Highway 21, heading north to Shueli and then onward to Sun Moon Lake and our hotel at Sun Moon Lake.
Day 12 Wednesday, 16 November After breakfast we drive to CCK Air Base, visit the base and have lunch. Later, driving toward Taichung in the afternoon, passing by the old HSA Compound downtown, the Officer’s housing area, NCO housing, Far Eastern Department Store, USO (2 different locations), Happy Buddha, Dung Hai University, Wu Chuan Lu (Bar Street) the Ridge to the west of Taichung City, Taichung Science Park, Dia Yi Lu (Bar Town) and Taichung Park, and on to our Taichung hotel. We plan to have supper at Benne Hanas, (Ta ben sau)
Day 13 Thursday, 17 November Drive to She Hu (Chiang Kai-shek’s resting place) tour one of his homes and garden areas. We’ll have lunch in the area, then on the way back to Taipei, we stop in Yinga to see pottery being made. Supper at Genghis Kan Mongolian BBQ in Taipei and the rest of the night is free.
Day 14 Friday, 18 November Drive to Taipei Air Station, a few minutes looking around the remaining buildings, then on to Pitan (Green Lake) with a short stop to walk around. Then, on to Wu Lai with its tramway and mountain scenery. We’ll have Lunch at the resort on the top of the mountain, after lunch make our way back to our bus and drive back to our hotel in Taipei.
In the late afternoon, we’ll meet-up and head out to the American Club (the old Club 63) for dinner and a final night together in Taiwan. This should be a grand time of talking about our trip, laughing about the days on the bus and just cementing the joys of our trip deep into our hearts. We have a wonderful group of new friends in our lives. It was something you will remember forever…..
Day 15 Saturday, 19 November Depart for home or onward to other destinations. Our hotel can provide courtesy transportation to the airport. Please let us know if you want to use the hotel courtesy van.
